If I have been kind of hard to get ahold of, here's my excuse š
(Yes, mentally I am doing fine. The more I pour myself into my family and my farm, the better I feel. I'm ridiculously tired, but it's a good tired.)
- Jesse took a few days off this weekend to get our routine down, but has gone back to work. That means chores are done, cows milked, calves and chickens fed, for him to leave for work at 7:30. I am thanking God every day that Pappy is home 5 days a week to help with the kids, or I would be ridiculously stressed right now! ā¤
- Pasture fence was finished this weekend, and the 2 year old heifers went outside for the first time! They thankfully stayed in the fence (which is good because Jesse, TR and my dad put up woven wire fence along with electric barb wire on top.) Might be overkill, but we don't have time to chase heifers this year! Hopefully that project can be put behind us! š
We had our 3 heifers freshen in 4 days! They were staggered just enough that they started to settle down, and the calves broke to their buckets without too much of a headache! š
- I don't think I have pictures of all the cows and calves, but the fresh ones and calves all have names now! I named the cows, and Lyla named the calves.
*** Anna had a bull calf named Cola
*** Belle had a heifer named Rosie
*** Crazy Eyes Caren had a bull named (Curious) George š
- We got our garden tilled once, and part of the pumpkin patch š! (Watch for more info later this summer on the locations we will be selling our pumpkins!)
- We started working on a chicken tractor to (safely) rotational graze our chickens! We will post steps in another blog soon :) š
- We traded our little guinea keet for a dozen more guinea eggs, and Miss Velvet (aka Lyla's Little Ren Hen) has taken over them all š she's flat as a pancake as we speak, trying to cover them all š She should be hatching more chicks in about 3 more weeks š£
- We are buying another bull calf this week, dehorning and banding all 4 calves this weekend. š® Little pigs š are coming in a few weeks to help drink up some extra fresh milk with the calves, until we can hopefully get signed up to ship milk. We have some very strong leads that I will share more about when we have definite answers :)
Whew! I think that's it for now! Seldom Rest Farm is growing in leaps and bounds šššš±
