Our baby boom has started!
Thursday, we came down for morning chores to find #85 Darla was in the barn ready to be milked for the first time, but her new calf was nowhere to be found. I went for a walk to try and find the calf in the pasture, and stumbled across a stillborn calf š„ He was a big bull calf, and looked perfectly formed and clean. Mama had done her job well, so we aren't sure exactly what happened š¢ Mama Darla seems to be a little under the weather. I try not to assign human emotions to animals, but I think they are capable of mourning a loss. We are doing all we can for her right now. ā¤
On a more positive note, we had another calf born tonight, and just look at her markings š We named her mama #83 Eeyore, because she was almost falling asleep for her first milking š The little heifer calf is unnamed yet, but she sure is a feisty one! She wanted no part of the bottle tonight, which means she probably got a good meal off mama! So we will try again in the morning!
We have eight more calves due very soon, so for those of you interested in purchasing some, hang in there!
I'll leave you with some pictures of our gorgeous little cutie peeking at me.

Any suggestions for a name? š®

Update! Little baby heifer is almost bucket broke and such a little spitfire! She loved her yummy colostrum this morning <3
